General
Jimi Hendrix and the wah-wah pedal are practically synonymous. Just think about those classic songs, such as 'Voodoo Child' and 'Up from the Sky' - those all featured a wah-wah pedal! Now Dunlop has successfully replicated the original Hendrix wah sound and offers it in the form of the JH1D Jimi Hendrix Signature Wah. Hendrix's original pedal was designed by the Thomas Organ Company and produced by JEN in Italy back in the '60s, and this pedal is based on that model in both looks and sound. Jimi's own unique modifications have been applied to the JH1D, and as such it features a smaller frequency range for a fatter, more open sound. Dunlop JH1D Jimi Hendrix Signature: authentic sound
As we all know, Jimi Hendrix was a fervent Start aficionado; because Strats naturally have a bright sound due to the slightly shrill bridge pickup, the frequency range of his wah-wah pedal needed to be reduced to compensate. With the Dunlop JH1D, the low range goes from 290 to 310 Hz, and the high range from 1,400 to 1,510 Hz. The result is a phenomenally funky sound without overly-aggressive trebles. In fact, you'll find that the JH1D has a resonant yet subtle sound without too many overtones The classic character of the pedal is best highlighted with clean tones, but its also suited for more modern high-gain sounds.
Style and components of the wah pedal
The JH1D features a robust JEN-style aluminium housing with an authentic black Italian crinkle finish. The strip between the housing and the steel bottom plate is sealed by a signature white vintage-style rubber bumper. Furthermore, the pedal is also equipped with top-quality jack connectors and a rugged on/off switch. The Dunlop JH1D Jimi Hendrix Signature Wah can be powered by a 9V battery (not included) or via the optional Dunlop ECB003 AC adapter. To make changing the battery quicker and easier, the pedal also features a practical battery lid.
